The Importance of
Before and
After Care
for Laser Hair Removal

I you've decided to opt for laser hair removal, there are a number of ways that you can ensure the end-result reaches its full potential. A common mistake of those undergoing this procedure is the lack of understanding towards providing the skin with the necessary before and after care. Luckily, we've put together a few tips on how to prep for your treatment and to achieve the best outcome possible (you can thank us later).

BEFORE

Shaving within 12 hours prior to treatment will remove the necessary amount of extra growth, to avoid hair just being singed during treatment - unlike waxing, we do not need to see the hair on the surface to effectively eliminate it.
Under no circumstances should you expose yourself to direct sunlight, fake tan or a solarium.
Apply sunblock liberally (no matter your intended activities for the day) and keep your skin thoroughly moisturized.
Do not wax or pluck for up to four weeks prior to your appointment. You may shave, but by using any other hair removal technique, you risk reducing the effectiveness of the treatment significantly. Before heading into your laser hair removal treatment, ensure your skin is free of any cosmetics, beauty products, lotions, deodorant and creams.
Think carefully about what you intend on wearing to your appointment. Opt for loose fitting clothing that will allow you to comfortably expose the skin site to be treated easily. Also consider what will provide you with optimal comfort and minimal irritation after the session.

AFTER

It's important that you do not pluck or wax any hair on the area that was treated. Be doing do, you will disrupt the treatment process which may lead to potential stimulation of the hair follicle, in other words you could potentially spark regrowth.
Exfoliate the area once any redness subsides, approximately 48 hours after the treatments.
If discolorations/pigmentation occurs to the affected area, apply vitamin E to encourage soothing of the skin.
Avoid direct sunlight for at least two to four weeks after the treatment.
If you have undergone laser hair removal in a facial area, mineral makeup may be applied withing the first 48 hours, but other cosmetics should be avoided until the skin has had time to heal.
Keep away from deodorants for at least three days to avoid causing irritation.
Whilst it's not uncommon to experience itching, it's important not the scratch the affected area.
Scratching or causing a scab to arise may result in scarring.
Give your body 24 - 48 hours rest from excessive exercise, the gym or the sauna - these can all cause irritation.
Undergoing laser hair removal treatment can be pleasant experience that delivers a flawless results, but much of this depends on your ability to provide your skin with essential care.
